Looking for a job? Think like a business

As it is a wild wild west 🀠 out there for recruitment with restructuring and redundancies I find myself having lots of conversations with in-house creative leaders looking for help with their job search. πŸ”Ž

Here are some tips and reoccurring themes that I wanted to share with anyone else looking for work at this wild time. πŸ‡

My advice to people has been to 'think like a business'.

πŸ€” Who are you REALLY for? – get clear on the 2/3 problems that you enjoy or have a track record of solving (this is your proposition). Companies are hiring to fix problems and achieve ambitions - help them decide if you can help them early on.

πŸ€” Don't be a scatter gun – it is tempting to apply for everything but you increase the rejections and you waste your time apply for things when you could be busy finding something else.

πŸ€” Be flexible - make yourself 'easy to buy' by saying you are open to freelance and perm roles. A full time hire takes a long time so it is risky - but hiring you as freelance gives them a chance to test you out.

πŸ€” Turn features into benefits - it is easy to list your skills but many are expected so what is your impact? I fed one persons list of benefits along with all of their testimonials into Claude.AI and asked it to "summarise the main characteristics and goals achieved for the person they are talking about to use on their CV" and it gave a really personalised clever summary.

It’s hard out there right now, so stay focused and be kind to yourself. πŸ€—
